During the wound-healing process fibroblasts (a type of cell in our connective tissue) synthesizes the protein collagen, to stimulate the wound healing process. In the case of keloids, the fibroblasts produce far more collagen than what’s typically needed, and the scar continues to grow beyond the area of the original wound.
